How to get To Kin Toh

We took a taxi from our hotel, La Zebra to Kin Toh. It was about a 16-minute drive from the tourist zone. If you prefer to travel like the locals, simply hop on a vespa scooter. If you want to take pictures at night, you may need a flash as it can certainly get dark and there isn’t any electricity throughout the property. Just keep in mind that Azulik doesn’t allow the use of DSLR professional cameras unless you pay a $350 fee. Although their website clearly states “professional cameras are not allowed,” once Kin Toh’s reservation team sends you a confirmation email, they inform you that professional cameras can be used with a fee.

You are welcome to take pictures with your phone, so be sure to invest in a good quality phone camera if you’re wanting to get great shots without the price tag. You can also invest in presets, and watch your photos magically transform into a Pinterest dream, with just the touch of a key!

One of our fav spots to take a picture was on the wooden staircase that led to our nest. It was dreamy, but it can also be quite scary, as there are twists and turns, as you walk on sticks or climb stairs to see the beauty of the nests. You can easily miss a step or lose your balance so be careful and be sure to wear proper shoes. But don’t worry too much about finding your way in the dark. The candlelights illuminate the pathway and provide a charming romantic vibe.

Azulik Hotel

Azulik is an eco-friendly resort that promises to allow you to be free from social media constraints and more committed to a sustainable dining experience. It is also home to 48 wooden crafted villas, some with an oceanfront view. These villas provide the ultimate escape from reality, as there’s no electricity or WiFi unless you’re in the lobby area. There are also no rules to wearing clothing on their private beach, as it’s optional. You don’t need to stay at the hotel for you to dine there. Everyone is welcome and their two restaurants are open to the public.

About the Nests

If you’re going to dine at Kin Toh, you’d want to treat yourself to a nest experience, where the jungle meets the sea. Mark and I were beyond excited when we found out that we could have dinner in one of the famed treehouses. We’d seen pictures of the place all over Instagram and knew that it was going to be an enchanting surreal experience.

Azulik has a total of 10 different nests, each with its own architectural art design. The nests range in size, design, and price. The Monkey nest is the cheapest and is $670 USD (12,000 MXN). The maximum number of guests allowed for this nest rental is 10.

If you want to ball on a budget when you visit Azulik, you can still enjoy a nest experience without the hefty price tag, simply book their sunset experience. It was only $49.68 USD (1000 Mexican pesos)!

The sunset experience is on a rooftop in the middle of the jungle, overlooking the ocean. It starts at 5 pm but we strongly encourage you to arrive 20-30 minutes before to ensure a spot.

The Monkey Nest

The monkey nest is the most popular and it’s easy to see why. It’s the cheapest option starting at $670 USD (12,000 MXN) for up to ten people. There are a total of three Monkey nests throughout the property and they’re all located next to each other. These nests are on the same level as the restaurant, so the views aren’t any better. However, you’ll have the nest all to yourself for the entire night.

For the best views, sit towards the west where you can watch the sunset.

The Starcatcher Nest

If you want an even better view of the sunset, and you’re willing to spend some pesos, the Starcatcher is your choice. It has a nice view of the sunset and the jungle, so you’ll get the best of both worlds. Proof that you can eat your cake and have it, too!

To get to these nests, you’ll have to climb a set of wooden stairs and cross a suspension bridge. Sounds like a mission impossible? But it’s worth it.

Here’s the secret, there’s only one Starcatcher nest. Be sure to make reservations in advance, especially during peak season.

The Starcatcher can accommodate up to eight people and starts at $780 USD (14,000 MXN).

The Haha Nest

If you want to enjoy a laugh and you’re not one for watching the sunset but would rather enjoy the ocean view and breeze, then the Haha nest is for you. Haha? Ok, maybe that was corny. I’m no Adam Sandler or Kevin Hart. Either way, it offers one of the best views of the ocean. It can also accommodate up to eight people and starts at a nightly rental price of $780 USD (14,000 MXN).

The Haha Nest and the Starcatcher nests are located next to each other, so if you have a group of eight or more people, you can book both nests and have the entire second level to yourselves. EPIC. Hey, can someone bring the bottle of champagne and say P-A-R-T-Y!?!

The White Rabbit

The White Rabbit was the nest that we booked. It is only one of its kind. A true rare gem. This nest is built on stilts and sits high above the Kin Toh restaurant. It’s the highest nest above the ground, providing an unparalleled view of the Caribbean sea and the sunset. You’ll truly feel like a bird, just let your soul get ready to fly and your belly get ready to be stuffed.

The Antiguo

The Antiguo nest is not as high as the White Rabbit but it is one of the most unique nests at Kin Toh. This nest looks just like a bird’s nest! Getting to this nest is totally worth the trip. You’ll have to cross a suspension bridge if you want to enjoy the view that it offers. It’s the most expensive nest. You can rent it for the night for $980 USD (16,000 MXN).

If being outside isn’t your thing, you can also dine in and reserve a private table at the Romantic or Lounge table. The interior architecture is just as appealing as the exterior.

What is the best Azulik nest?

It depends on what you’re looking for. If you want the best ultimate view, the White Rabbit nest will be your best bet. It offers a view of the sunset over the Caribbean Sea and the Mayan jungle view.

However, if you want the best nest for your money, We’d suggest the Sunset experience at the Copa del Pintor nest. Although you won’t have the nest to yourself and you’ll share it with 40 other people, your pockets will thank you and you’ll still be able to enjoy some jaw-dropping views with a cocktail in hand. It’s also a great nest to mingle and meet some other cool travelers. You never know, you just may find your next BFF in the crowd.

Our Experience at the Azulik Nests

I’ll be honest, I was a bit apprehensive about the whole experience at first. I’m not great with heights (although I’ve dined in the sky and gone parasailing). I just wasn’t sure how I was going to feel being perched up in a treehouse, in the middle of Spring with the sun blazing on my skin. Not to mention I heard about the hungry Mexican flies that would possibly suck the blood out of me! Thankfully, there weren’t any mosquitoes in Azulik. However, there was a herd of them buzzing around in other parts of Mexico, (ehem Playa del Carmen) so don’t forget to bring bug spray if you venture that way.

Mark didn’t think it was worth the social media hype. We had read so many recent bad reviews online from influencers receiving special treatment to horrible service and overpriced food. But for every bad review, there were some extraordinary ones, in which the guest raved about everything. We wanted to be among the positive reviews. I believe that positivity creates positivity. Only good vibes in our tribe. With that in mind and prayer in our hearts, we booked our nest at Kin Toh and wished upon a star for a great experience.

And we were not disappointed. From the starter to the main course and dessert, our taste buds were having the party of the century. It was like a birthday celebration and NYE party in our mouths. We were surprised and delighted with each dish on the menu. Overjoyed, to be exact!

At Kin Toh, you’re served a 3-course meal, where every dish combines local methods perfectly created by their in-house chef, and designed to delight your palate. Kin Toh also has a unique wine cellar full of wonders ready for you to explore.

As soon as we arrived and started exploring the property, all of our fears melted away. We felt welcome when we arrived and were escorted to our nest.

We were lucky enough to snag the White Rabbit nest for our dinner, which offers the best sunset view of both the jungle and beach as your backdrop. If you’re looking to book a nest, we would highly recommend trying to get the White Rabbit nest.

We arrived 20 mins early so we could explore, and because they’re strict about timing. We also didn’t want to be waiting in a long line. As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with a welcome cocktail made with mezcal, ginger, and hibiscus. We sipped on our drinks as we watched the sun dip below the horizon and enjoyed the sounds of nature all around us. It was truly an unforgettable experience.

If you’re thinking about booking a nest at Azulik Kin Toh restaurant, we would say go for it! The Azulik Resort is truly a magical place and the Kin Toh restaurant is just one of the many reasons to visit.

What to Know Before Booking a Nest at Kin Toh

• Nest Tables are private tables with the best view reserved just for you from 5:30 pm (opening time) to 11 pm, so we would suggest making the most of your time & money by reserving a 5:30 pm nest.
• The payment for the nest is a fixed rental price, regardless of the number of people. PLUS an additional minimum consumption per person. The price of the nest is only for the table and is paid once you arrive. At the end of your dinner, you’ll pay an additional amount for the food.
• The use of a professional camera and drone has an extra cost ($350 USD).
